Why does my fan spin up?

If your Mac's fan gets loud while using LumaSpace, it means your Mac is working hard to render the live wallpaper and warming up. The fan spins to cool it down. This is normal — your Mac is protecting itself.

How to reduce fan noise

  1. Turn on Battery Mode — pauses the wallpaper when on battery, reducing heat.
  2. Avoid running heavy apps alongside LumaSpace — video editing, 3D rendering, or gaming already pushes your Mac hard. A live wallpaper on top makes it work even harder.
  3. Choose simpler wallpapers — gentle, subtle motion puts less strain on your Mac than busy, complex scenes.
  4. Check for app conflicts — if another app is also hogging resources, it compounds the issue.

Check what's using your CPU

  1. Press Command + Space and type "Activity Monitor."
  2. Click the CPU tab at the top.
  3. Look at the "% CPU" column to see which apps are using the most power.
  4. If something other than LumaSpace is using a lot of CPU, that might be the real cause of your fans.

On Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4): fans should rarely spin up from LumaSpace alone. If they do, something else is likely contributing.

On Intel Macs: some fan activity is expected with complex wallpapers. Try simpler scenes or pause during heavy tasks.
